Frequently asked questions

Boat hire FAQs

Do I need a boat licence to hire from Tide?

It depends on the boat. Our Tinny has a 4hp motor, so no boat licence is required — just valid photo ID. The Bayliner Bowrider and Stacer Runabout have engines over 4hp, so you'll need a current Queensland Recreational Marine Driver Licence (RMDL) or interstate equivalent. We'll give you a full safety briefing and rundown of the boat before you head out.

Where do I pick up the boat?

Our Brisbane fleet is based at Manly Harbour in the Bayside area. We'll send you the exact meeting point and any parking info once your booking is confirmed.

What boats do you have available?

We have a range of tinnies and small runabouts suited for exploring Moreton Bay, fishing, and casual cruising. Check out our Boats for Hire page for full details on each vessel.

How long can I hire a boat for?

We offer half-day (4 hours) and full-day (8 hours) hire periods. If you need something outside those windows, get in touch and we'll see what we can do.

How much does boat hire cost?

Pricing varies depending on the boat and hire period. Check individual boat listings on our Boats for Hire page for current rates, or enquire for a custom quote.

Is fuel included?

Boats are provided with a full tank. You return them with a full tank. If the tank isn't full on return, a refuelling fee will apply as outlined in our Booking Policy.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Safety comes first. If conditions are unsafe, we'll contact you to reschedule or offer a full refund. If conditions are marginal, we'll discuss your options on the day. See our Cancellation Policy for full details.

Can I cancel or reschedule my booking?

Yes. Cancellations made more than 48 hours before your booking receive a full refund. Within 48 hours, a cancellation fee may apply. Full details are in our Cancellation Policy.

How do I book?

Send us an enquiry through our Enquire Now page or give us a call on 0485 670 603. We'll confirm availability and get you sorted.

What do I need to bring?

Bring sun protection (hat, sunscreen, sunnies), drinking water, and any food or fishing gear you want. We provide all required safety equipment including life jackets.

Can I go fishing from the hire boats?

Absolutely. Our boats are well-suited for fishing around Moreton Bay. You'll need your own fishing gear and a valid Queensland fishing licence if applicable.

How many people can fit on the boats?

Capacity varies by vessel — typically between 3 and 5 passengers. Check the Boats for Hire page for the capacity of each boat.

Can I take the boat to Moreton Island?

Our hire area covers Moreton Bay and surrounding waterways. Trips to Moreton Island may be possible depending on conditions and the vessel. Chat to us during your booking and we'll advise what's realistic.

Do you provide safety equipment?

Yes. Every boat comes equipped with life jackets, a fire extinguisher, a bailer, an anchor, and all other required safety gear as per Queensland maritime regulations.

What if I damage the boat?

A security bond is taken before each hire. Minor wear and tear is expected, but any damage beyond normal use will be assessed and the bond may be used to cover repair costs. Full details are in our Terms & Conditions.

Is there a security bond?

Yes. A refundable security bond is required at the time of booking. The amount varies by vessel and is fully refunded provided the boat is returned on time, undamaged, and with a full tank of fuel.

Can I bring my dog?

Well-behaved dogs are welcome on most of our boats. Just let us know when booking so we can match you with the best vessel. You're responsible for cleaning up after your pet.

What if I return the boat late?

Late returns incur additional charges as outlined in our Booking Policy. If you're running behind, give us a call as soon as possible and we'll do our best to work with you.

Do you offer overnight or multi-day hire?

Not currently. We offer half-day and full-day hire only. If there's enough demand, we may look at extended hire options in the future.

Are your boats insured?

Yes. All hire boats are fully insured for third-party liability. Hirers are responsible for any damage caused through negligence or breach of hire terms, which is covered by the security bond.

Can I hire a boat for a special event or party?

Our boats are best suited for small groups and casual outings rather than large events. If you have something specific in mind, get in touch and we'll let you know what's possible.

Do you offer boat hire on the Sunshine Coast?

We're expanding to the Sunshine Coast soon. Register your interest and we'll let you know as soon as bookings open. In the meantime, check out our Sunshine Coast Boat Hire page for more info.
